Gizmodo has the scoop on more Zune details today, following up their Zune Pictures with tidbits on how the UI and case looks.
The most disappointing detail is that the scroll wheel isn’t actually a scroll wheel. It’s actually just a set of four buttons embedded in the wheel. Oh well. The UI looks like Media Center, with the transparent fonts and alphabetical speed scrolling.
There’s also a grip on the back, magnetic headphones, FM receiver/transmitter, WiFi and something called “Capture Settings”. They don’t know what this does, but they’re guessing it’s to record off FM. Maybe it’s for video recording?

Just so you know, it’s not black, its just a black and white picture. I think it cools pretty cool and would actually prefer a black version.

Just so you know, its not black, it’s a black and white photo. However i do hope Microsoft release a black version as i’d much prefer that.

I think the BEST thing about this is that the scroll wheel isn’t a scroll wheel. I loathe the iPod wheel. It’s often too sensitive, requires a learning curve (watching my mother fumble with an iPod scroll wheel is a painful experience), and requires you to exert unneeded effort. Pressure sensitive up and down buttons (the harder you press the faster is scrolls) are a far, far, far better idea. If that’s what Zune has, bravo for the Microsoft engineers waking up to that. :) (Creative got halfway there when they realized that up and down was all you need–a full circle is completely unnecessary.)

I’d rather have a Toshiba Gigabeat.

Questionable.

All I have to say is MSFT = “Yesterday’s technology today”. Ok so maybe they added Wifi but it’ll be interested to see what this actually buys you when you have a dodgy interface and you’re away from your desktop or laptop.
Just read this about the next iPod:

I wonder if it will have that special blue screen to greet users when it freezes and crashes…

Looks like an old Casio LCD TV, with a plasticky unsatisfying feel.
Look Dave said, if I had to join the “anything-but-iPod” crowd I’d go with the excellent Toshiba Gigabeat.
But really, having set the standard for design excellence, and the fact that the car industry have embraced the iPod, plus with the next iPod looking to bring to mouthwatering features to the table, people who belong to the anything-but-iPod group really seem to have “issues.”
Is Microsoft DRM any better than Apple DRM?

Hmmmmm… i certainly expected more than that from MS, they have to come along way to make an impact and i expected their Xbox experience to come to the forefront…..eagerly await the official view!

I just can’t keep wondering why MS will launch such an ugly product.
Haven’t they took a look on the iPod ;o) ?

Looks cool the only thing holding me back from buying one is all my old itunes songs don’t play on it. And I don’t think Microsoft will pay for them.
