CrunchGear and the Race to 2000

Alright everybody, it’s time for a new CrunchGear contest, this one will produce a sole victor who will receive an iPod Nano. The object is simple: comment. That’s it. Really. The person who makes the 2000th comment will receive the Nano and, of course, eternal fame and glory.

I should note that ideally we’re looking for reasonably insightful comments, so please don’t just post something ridiculous in order to make an entry or drive the count up. If the winning comment is junk, we’ll be forced to take the next in line. Secondly, when you comment, make sure you use your valid email address, as that’s what we’ll be using to contact you should you win. Our goal here is to get some discussion going AND give someone a black 4GB Nano. This will also allow us to see what you guys enjoy reading/talking about and teach us how to improve our coverage over time. Win-win, see?

We currently have 960 comments, so get started. We’ll publish regular updates once we reach 1000, 1500, and 1900.

Sounds like a good idea! I discovered you blog a few weeks ago and have really enjoyed it. More pizzaz than Engadget & TechEBlog.

Thanks.

I guess it’s time to become a more vocal reader of this site, I presume. Nothin’ like incentive to get people going…

Great idea for a contest, CG. While CrunchGear is still relatively new, I’ve noticed a lack of comments on many of the great postings on the site. This is an excellent way to create community enthusiasm and drive a business need for growing the user base. Bravo!

Excellent! I really like this blog for it’s humourous, insightful articles and the fact that I receive about 20-30 feeds per day, so it’s a great distraction from work! :p

Good comments always add something to a story, especially when they are positive and constructive as most are on this website. It’s already working on me!

Props to the graphic designer you guys have…those one eyed things are a blasty blast to see then…well no one else has em!

Hey - I really like the fact you guys do competitions.. other bloggers in the crunch expire should take note (I want some phones too..).

But, just a thought.. you have 4000 subscribers on feedburner (I’m one) which means half a comment each for the competition.. here’s my half..

I really dig(g) Crunchgear because it’s written in such a funny off-the-cuff way which is…

Since I discovered TechCrunch I’ve always liked all the *crunch* blogs. They are precise, short, geek-oriented (with humor) and informative. I don’t have time during work to read through long articles, so I need a quick information fix with a link to get more info if I want to. That’s what Crunchgear is for me!

Is the contest open only to US residents or to anybody in the world?

no image
Blake Robinson (Who am I?)

Well it’s a pain in the ass the send stuff to you foreigners, but we love you anyway, so the contest is anybody in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD. Residents of other planets are ineligible though. Not because we love you any less than terrestrial aliens, but because we lack the means to ship prizes to you (that TechCrunch company space yacht isn’t quite complete yet). So please don’t enter if you’re currently living on Mars or something. Or Antarctica as that might as well be another planet. Anyplace else though.

Wicked. I totally hate it when competitions on obviously international websites are limited to the US. Thanks guys!

Dave (Who am I?)

This is cool. Although my wife always reminds me I am Martian, I guess I still qualify as an Earth alien resident

Great idea to get the comments happening. Mmmmmm. Wouldn’t mind a nano!

Love the site. You seem to find a lot of stories that my other favourites miss. Keep up the good work.

Do you have a winner yet???

Chris (Who am I?)

Well you’ve been posted on reddit, so you may be seeing a massive flood of traffic soon, depending on how the story does.

Clever idea, I must say, though how you plan to make money off of it eludes me.

YourTechSupport (Who am I?)

So… the new nanos are nice, but do i really need iTunes and software on the PC to use it?

jim (Who am I?)

Wonder if this nano has been given away yet?

to YourTechSupport
no you dont have to use itunes but the alternatives are slim and do not always take advantage of all functionality that itunes can

Joerg (Who am I?)

Well now that’s a lovely idea, so let’s push the count a bit before I am the 2000th and you tell me you don’t ship to non-US countries^^

Dave (Who am I?)

So I hopethis black Nano is the brand new 8GB-2nd generation-brushed aluminium cased one? You’re not trying to give away outdated stuff, are you :)

Is there a page displaying the number of comments in real time? Even better would be a page with all the comments being updated live in AJAX.

no image
Cal (Who am I?)

I can certainly comment if that’s what you’re going for.

An AJAX update would certainly be flashy, but that would take half the fun out of the contest.

TO DAVE: this is the first generation ipod nano, the one that as of sept. 12 apple is no longer selling new and there is nothing wrong with it but i just dont appreciate having two of the same device and one just collecting dust.

comment #1.. great constest idea.. i can’t wait till i see other tech blogs (err gizmo blogs) ripping off this idea…

Nick Ellis (Who am I?)

That is a great idea!

Mark (Who am I?)

How do you expect us to make insightful and useful comments when the main article is make as many comments as possible to drive our reader ratings up. You should have buried the comp in the bottom of a real article, (maybe about the release of a new black iPod?) and find out how many people are actually reading the whole articles.

Not that I’m saying your posts aren’t worth reading…. I only just found you!!

(Ps: Please disregard all above comments if I happen to be the 2000th poster!!) :D

Ethan (Who am I?)

Love the work you guys are doing, this is my top media vehicle for all things tech.. No other sites needed.

i cant wait to win this ipod

I can’t believe it’s taken this long. I feel like I personally have left 2000 comments. I read the site EVERY DAY via RSS, and wouldn’t miss it!

jim (Who am I?)

Yay the crunch is coming… time for the games to begin… Just kidding. I do have to say though… great articles. but the 2000 is fun.
