ViewSonic iPod-Dock LCDs Launch
by Josh Goldman on October 11, 2006

we reported on last month. ViewSonic, in an attempt to give us one more thing we can stick into our monitor, has released its 19-inch VX1945wm and 22-inch VX2245wm LCD monitors that incorporate an iPod docking station, four USB 2.0 ports, an 8-in-1 card reader, a microphone, stereo speakers and a subwoofer into the displays. While we’re all for adding functionality and freeing up desk space, we still can’t help think “why?” It’s just kinda ugly to us to have so much going on with your display.

The VX1945wm and VX2245wmLCDs are priced well at $329 and $449 respectively, resolutions are good and response times are low at 5ms, so gaming on them should be cool.

Take away the speakers and subwoofer, and I like it. My iPod dock always seems to get in the way, and it takes up a USB port…same with my multi-card reader…same with my USB hub, since I always seem to need more. These monitors would combine all of those into one, freeing up deskspace and USB ports. I don’t need the speakers/sub though, since I already have some that I like and I haven’t heard any built in to monitors that actually sound decent.

Why, just why would I want to watch a 320×240 video on a 22in display?? (At least that’s what I’m lead to believe by the identical photos on the iPod & LCD)

Ok, so the iPod will do 640×480… but I’ll bet you anything that the video on the LCD wouldn’t be anything near like that picture. At least my Vision:M supports DVD’s 720×480 ;-)

OK….. so where is the radio?
