Gears of War To Push Xbox 360 To Its Max?
by Raj Patel on October 27, 2006

Epic, the game developer behind Gears of War, is also the company that convinced Microsoft to put 512MB RAM into the Xbox 360 instead of 256MB. Epic claimed Gears of War simply would not function without 512MB RAM. Preston Thorne, Gears of War QA manager has stated multiple times that Gears of War pushes the Xbox 360 to its limits. So the big question in our minds is, is Gears of War really the most-demanding game we will see on the Xbox 360? Is this game the limit for all titles on Microsoft’s second-gen console?

In all of our experiences, we’ve seen consoles get stronger as they progress, so my opinion is no, GoW is not the limit of next-gen gaming for Microsoft. We will see stronger titles as the years progress, and by the time it’s time to switch to a new console, Xbox 360 will have much stronger titles than GoW. Of course, we’re being optimistic. If GoW does end up showing us all the Xbox 360 will be able to do, then it’s time Microsoft starts worrying about Sony’s PlayStation 3.

Who said that GOW has pushed the 360 to its MAX? I take it this is your own opinion because I have’nt seen anything anywhere that states this. No doubt that this is the most demanding game to date on the 360 but I cant see GOW being the game to say the 360 is the finished article.

The console has only been around 12 months an although Epic & MGS put a lot into this game - within time developers will get to grips more with the Hardware and learn how to implement better. People are talking big things about the PS3, so far its had another European delay thanks to shortage of blu-ray components… It is slightly over priced to say the least. How a machine that isn’t even out yet is being compared to one that’s kicking ass all over right now is illogical.

What a PS3 lover you are! PS3 has nothing on 360! And will have nothing in the future.

Epic also stated that Gears couldn’t be made to run on PS3 due to memory limitations. So I don’t think MS has to worry just yet.

i agree with tech, i havent seen anything saying that GoW pushes the 360 to the max, it is the most demanding game coming out for the 360 now, but i dont think microsoft needs to really worry about the PS3 as far as graphics and power. If anything it would be fan based worry. The PS3 is not as powerfull as far as graphics compared to the 360. Im not saying that it cant do anything like gears, but it cant mesure up to the frames and power the 360 can do with graphics. The PS3 is a more powerfull CPU based system. Yet have i seen a game from sony to show great power from the CPU. Im sure as time goes on we will see better games come out from all 3 systems, its how it has worked in the past.

But tech has a good point. GoW is the most powerfull game to push the 360, but im sure that dosent mean its all the 360 can do.

Actually, I’m for both consoles. The 360’s limitation comes directly from Epic, who (if you read carefully) stated, ” We have pushed 360 to its limit.” Read fanboys, read.

I have to totally agree with you. I hate to say this but this article was a waist of time. When a game is created well, It’s suppose to push the boundaries of the developers abilities. This Is by far the best looking game that’s coming out. BUT that doesn’t mean that the next one won’t be better. That’s the way it goes with console games. Have you seen the last Gen of xbox 1 games? They’ve come a long way sine the release of the xbox.

As for the PS3, I’m really surprised that people are putting so much stock in a console that first of all, hasn’t been released yet; Secondly, it’s been paged with delays and bad press, and Lastly it’s going to make you spend WAY more money and a game console should ever cost.
If I want a blue Ray player, I’ll go out and buy one. (BTW, I’ve seen a Blue Ray movie being shown on a 32 inch HD plasma. I gotta tell you! I didn’t see the difference! May be it’s just me)

Why in the hell is it so hard to understand what Epic meant by saying ” We have pushed 360 to its limit ” if they even said that. They meant they pushed it to it’s limits for now lol. Wait one year and you will see games that will look better then GoW.

i think gears of war should come out to the playstation 3 since it has the best graphics ever better then 360 i dont understand that epic game is too stubborn to make gears of war for the playsation 3 system like they could make billions if its for both 360 and ps3 they could make double the price they are making now for GOW since people want it for ps3 and dont have 360 like i want it fuck this just pisses me off anyways epic make GOW for ps3 plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The only reason they don’t make it for the PS3 is because Epic is part of Microsoft. So they can’t make it for the PS3.

Epic is not part of Microsoft ,lol. If you haven’t noticed Unreal Tournament 3 came out on the PS3 which is by Epic. The main reason why it’s not coming out for the PS3 is because Microsoft and Epic made a deal to make Gears an exclusive, at least the first to from what I’m hearing. There has been word lately that Microsoft would buy Epic but as of now they don’t.

hahaha. your an idiot. UT series was out on sonys platform long before the 360. thats why they carryed it over to the ps3. also, microsoft wants gow to be exclusive to the 360 because they that will boost sales of the 360 and they will make far more money of that then if they were to release it on the ps3.
