Amazon to Sell Xbox 360 for $100

Rumor has it that Amazon will soon be selling an Xbox 360 bundle for $100. This would be a significant markdown, as the regular Core System goes for $299.99, while the Premium Package goes for $399.99.

The holiday promotion package is said to include the Xbox 360 Core System and possibly other accessories. Perhaps Amazon will be pairing Core Systems with 20GB hard drives in order to make room for the new 70GB unit about to drop.

Unfortunately, specific details are sparse at this point, but expect to hear something in the coming days. Keep your browser tuned here and we’ll keep you posted as this story develops.

In case anyone knows:
- Would an Xbox 360 bought from the US play nice with european TV sets?
- What about european game titles?

Anita (Who am I?)

It plays nicely with European game titles, should play nicely with European Hi-Def TVs, but I’m not sure about regular TVs.

Can I upgrade to the HD-DVD add-on with the core system?

Does the core system include only a 10GB hard drive? (which would not accept a downloaded movie, not that I would necessarily use this service).

I’m sure I can buy a wireless controller to add. Can I buy a hard drive unit to add to the Core system?

For someone looking to buy an Xbox 360 anyway, would there be any reason to not get the Core at this discount then just load it up with extras?

HD DVD addon can be used with both core and premium skus.

However, I dont think this story is even closely legit. No way MS will discount to $100 when there is literally no competition this holiday season from PS3 (wii is in a different class of gamer). Whoever is giving you this info, is probably a Sony rep that is trying to impact Xbox sales by making people delay buying a Xbox to see if this is true… hopefully by that time they can stock more PS3. I will even bet an Amazon Xbox on it…

If any discount it will be in Japan to get more Japanese adoption (like the Blue Dragon bundle)…

mxlews (Who am I?)

Yeah..seems like a $200 discount would be unrealistic, even for the holiday sales.

Poor fake story - linkbait to get additional traffic.

Not a chance the Xbox will be reduced this much

An American Xbox 360 will not run on 220V. We had a guy here take his to Greece and ended up killing it.

Robert (Who am I?)

Good theory Francis.
At $100 they could sell an unlimited amount of units. If the rumor gains any momentum and credibility xbox sales will stall between now and xmas. At $100 I’d buy 4 of them just for the hell of it.
Hey, a little birdy just told ME that PS3’s are going to be $50 at Amazon the day after Christmas! Pass it on!

BusDriver (Who am I?)

…and I have a bridge to sell you. Cheap, too.

Bullshit

Rumors are fun to spread for TRAFFIC!

ggbd

Its a scam made up by a Sony representative to kill xbox360 sales this christmas by lying to the community to not buy xbox360s till they “find out” that it MIGHT be on sale for $100

webonics (Who am I?)

I hadn’t planned on buying a Xbox 360 at all (PS3 instead)…but if this promotion really comes out at the $100 price, I’ll definitely pick up a XBox 360 right away!

kied

2/3 parts of the price in discount doesnt look credible enough…if it was the case i would probably get one to check it out..but games and accesories are pretty expensive so i dont know

EliteGamer (Who am I?)

Ill believe this new price when i see it.

everyone neglects to consider the pay-per-view aspect of the marketing strategy… if they can get this box into the hands of thousands of more consumers interested in the on-demand market, they can make extraordinary gains in movie rentals, game rentals, more through an already existing (and building) infrastructure. Not to mention sales of accessories. X-box live subscription fees or $4.00 each movie offer pretty enticing long-term returns…. if they can gain a large enough market by getting the box into the hands of as many people as possible before sony can take a slice, think about the potential returns. How many movies do you think are rented by each household in a given year? Estimate a very conservative 25, and that’s an additional $100 in revenues that might not have been seen otherwise…. and thats just movies, not even considering potential revenues from music/jukebox, gaming, etc. This is not as much of a long shot as you might think. Now $100 is a little lowball by any standards… perhaps it was a $100 discount, but we’ll see.

Why does it hurt when I pee?

CK1121

It’s already $100 off, making it $199 at Microcenter for the core, and $299 for the bundled system.

For everyone saying Microsoft would not do this, let’s focus on one thing here, Amazon has this really unique thing called an INVENTORY. This inventory is on most occasions already paid for and they could have been sitting on these “core units” for 9 months and might just be ready to dump them. Microsoft doesn’t care what Amazon does with Amazon’s inventory, as far as MS is concerned they have their money and Amazon could GIVE them away if they so choose.

Just because MS announced they would not reduce the price of their systems does NOT in ANY way regulate what Amazon chooses to do. I’m sure whether or not this is legit we will find out, however please stop talking about how MS would not reduce their product price when Microsoft isn’t the one with the rumored sale.

Anyone in sales knows they can’t sit on inventory forever that’s why there are CLEARANCE sales. If this one it true, just consider it a clearance on 360 core models.

The ticket that Sony seems to be riding on is the marketing power that their blu-ray player will have over the Xbox. The sad part is it costs them around $200 per unit to drop a blu-ray mechanism into their fancy console. If Sony is already losing money on a per-unit basis on the PS3, they’re going to have to make up for it in peripherals/games/services or sabotage their competitor’s sales. The Playstation 3 probably already has the Japanese market, but the Americans are notoriously unpredictable and/or dispersed in the console market. They have a chance to win the “swing vote” of anyone in the market to buy either console, so I could see this being a rumor spread by some Sony exec. However, I am dead set on getting the Xbox 360. I will wait until after Thanksgiving to buy myself one in anticipation of said rumor.

$100 does sound a little low, but if any corporation would have the money to spare it would be Microsoft. They will only have money to gain in subscriptions, games, peripherals, and other accessories as a result.

A friend of mine works at CompUSA, and he said they were giving away core 360’s for free with 37″ plasma screens. If you’re familiar with Black Friday, CompUSA also has a sale where if you buy a RAZR and sign a contract with Cingular, they’re selling a Core 360 for $100 (which is slick, if you want a RAZR and have Cingular anyways, or know someone that does). Which leads me to agree with the person who commented above in regards to the “inventory” issue.

I find it hard to believe that they’d combine it with a 20 gig hard drive as a bundle though. That’d be pretty dumb, considering how much more money they’d make if they sold the 20 gig HD seperately.

If something like this were to happen, you’d think it’d either be a Black Friday online sale (the day after Thanksgiving), or a Cyber Monday sale (the monday after thanksgiving, online stores only). The thing is, if you (or someone you know) wants a RAZR with Cingular service, do you just get it at CompUSA? Or do you want to wait and see if Amazon will sell you a bundle that’ll get you more for your buck?

This Amazon selling the Xbox 360 for $100 is legit. My buddy was talking to an Xbox live rep telling them how his 360 didn’t play the 360 games too well and the rep did tell him about Amazon selling the Core system for $100. Don’t really care if ya’ll don’t believe it till you see it. But thanksgiving day check Amazon.com for the $100 deal and rub one off when you see it.

The X Box 360 is not being sold for $100.00 on November 22nd. It is just a rumor. I work for Amazon. Amazon is not doing this we do not know who started this rumor but feel free to visit our site on November 22nd and purchase more items.

Thank You.

Steavan (Who am I?)

You guys are all hella dumb acusing this site. It happens today at 11:00. But since you don’t believe it, it helps me get one hella cheap. Then you guys can buy it off me for $275 and I’ll make $175.

Mike

I went to the sale page on Amazon at 10:58am PST. I tried to refresh the page at 11am, but it’s STILL trying to load a whole ten minutes later. I guess the Amazon servers have succumbed to the sheer volume of interested buyers… too bad I probably won’t be one of the lucky ones :-\

Will

Sold out within 5 mins, I was on here trying to grab one since 10:58 PST, clicked referesh, page timed out several times, and at 11:06 PST I actually got the page up and they were sold out….what a dissapointment

Mark (Who am I?)

Well… I waited for the deal.
Was on the site before 11AM Pacific time today, Thursday, Nov 23rd…
The Amazon site was unable to load. I guess too many people accessing it.
I kept trying and trying and trying and couldn’t get on.
Alas, at 11:08, I successfully got through and, surprise, surprise, Xbox 360 for $100 SOLD OUT. Very nice.

I wonder if they indeed sold 1000 items for this price? Could this have been just a major hoopla?

I wanna hear from those who were able to buy at this price!

dave

SCAM!!!!!!!!! I would love to hear if someone actually got this Xbox360 today. I hit my refresh button at 1:52PM and the screen didn’t load until 2:07PM and of course Amazon was all SOLD OUT. I have high speed cable access so I know it wasn’t my connection speed that held me up. Plus one for Amazon…a great scam to get people to ping their site. Quick run to Best buy of Circuit city I bet they just stocked their shelves full of PS3 because of all of us suckers trying to get an Xbox 360 for $100

Caroline (Who am I?)

The Amazon $100 Xbox 360 deal was a rip off. I was on the site 30 minutes before the start of the sale. When the sale started, I was kicked off the site and couldn’t get back on until they were all sold out. This sort of marketing is not about who is there first, it’s about who has the faster computer. My system is fast, but I guess I wasn’t a preferred customer of Amazon. Will shop elsewhere in the future.

George

I got on Amazon’s site at 8:00 this morning and had the page all loaded up and I was already signed in. I refreshed the paged periodically throughout the morning. At three minutes before the sale started, I began continuously reloading the page. And I scored the system! But even though it was loaded into my Shopping Cart I still wasn’t convinced I had it because Amazon essentially crashed and I couldn’t access the checkout page for another half hour. But when I got there, I had it for a hundred bucks. Lucky me! Anyone want to buy a system I don’t need?

Mark (Who am I?)

I was in the same boat as all of the rest of you, where I got kicked off the site when I tried to refresh 5 minutes early and by the time I got through they were all gone. But all this sour grapes about how it was a scam or rip off by Amazon is silly. Haven’t you guys ever tried to get tickets off Ticketmaster when a big concert goes on sale? Limited supply of something that tons of people want, even these big sites can get overwhelmed with traffic.

I got one. I actually got onto the you’ve been awarded this offer page (or whatever it said) on two of my Firefox tabs, then they had me answer a simple math question. I added it to my cart then bought it for $100. I had other items in my cart, about $200 worth (which I quickly deleted). I wonder if this assisted me winning the code?
