BenQ MusiQ

Just when you thought manufacturers had tapped the forms of potential MP3 players, BenQ comes along and turns our perceptions on their heads. The BenQ MusiQ MP3 player is exactly what it looks like, an MP3 player in the shape of dog tags.

The player uses a built-in microSD card slot. It includes the MusiQ player and a special dog tag. There is one called “magic bean” for the ladies and another called “steel wings” for guys.

The players will come in 512MB and 1GB capacities. The 512MB player will cost about $88 and will be available Dec. 4 via phone and Dec. 15 online. Random orders will also receive a metal bracelet and a carrying case. No word on pricing or availability fro the 1GB player.

You have to go to their website…. Worst idea for an ad campaign ever!

Thats pretty cool. Plus it possible to get 3+ GBs (2+ GB Micro SD card) of music in a mp3 player the size of a dog tag… Wonder how you charge the thing? Through the audio port like the New Ipod Shuffle?

I have to agree with Fezzik that’s a ridiculous event to base their ad campaign on. Some Japanese singer standing in front the of the WTC wreckage? I guess we can look forward to further ads with the firebombing of Dresden, concentration camps, and oh yeah, how about Hiroshima & Nagasaki?

Idiots.

Now that I got that off of my chest:

On it’s own merits, separate of the marketing idiots however, this is an interesting design, and I could see a real market for offering personal engraving to complete that dog tag effect.

the marketing department did a good job with the chinese text on the advertisement, blame the idiot who badly translated it to english.

Interesting design, priced below $100. But looking at the new shuffle for the same price, I think the Ipod clipon shuffle is gonna have this beat. Unless the kids truly find this cooler… I doubt it.

...

The guy standing there is the lead singer from a Taiwanese band, not Japanese. The reason he’s featured in the ads is because he helped with the design.
