NYC Traffic Cams Watched By Public

You could call it an invasion of privacy or you could call it hours of drunken fun. Either way, apparently you can tune into some of NYC’s traffic cameras to view what’s going on around town mdash; and by town I mean Manhattan. Only 10 cameras will stream in real time but there’s still an additional 35 cameras that do stills. Worth checking out if you’re a terrorist, pervert, sight-seer, or Internet user.

Hi Vince… although this isn’t as widespread as London (England), I would expect cameras being stuck everywhere a billboard isn’t in the near future. We got some of these in Toronto to watch traffic… each time I view these things I am so happy I never got a job nor worked in a cubicle! I don’t know how you guys handle it… day in and day out… GRIDLOCK!

How fun. I think the internet brings out the voyeur inside of all of us, with cameras like this around…. Fun fun fun!

It’s fun until there is a camera pointing right at you or at your window… then depending on what you do of this opportunity, you may be able to become world famous or a complete social reject ;-)

And a mashup application to hit shortly after public webcams take over… the UnWiFi Router… routes to take in the city that avoid big bro’s eye.
Hmmn, if only I had programming skills, angel funding a year I could be doing a podcast interview with Mr. Arrington myself.

I think this is a good way for terrorists to cause a lot of trouble. im not going to go more into depth due to the fact that im one of those people that when you tell me about a flaw, i tend to exploit it so, terrorist, start thinking. it doesnt suprise me however that they didnt secure the streams. people have a hard enough time securing their own home wireless networks let alone, major traffic video streams.

Wow! Only 5 posts and the fear mongers are already here! Some terrorists blow things up to make you afraid to outside and some terrorist put up cameras and make you afraid to go outside.

Traffic cams are the second phase, the first was still shots from your camera phone. The next phase will be everybody streaming live video from their phone (over wifi).
Of course holding the phone would be a clumsy interface (and bad pun), so the camera will be mounted on a wireless earpiece or the rim of your glasses. People will be able to lead your life with you.
No offense to the people in here….but then we will have more than enough information to be infinitely boring.
