HD VoIP: Wha?

What the heck? HD VoIP is apparently the latest marketing scheme by Canadian telco Iristel. Apparently it adds CD quality voice calls to standard VoIP which is, to put it lightly, about as useful as… I don’t even know. Sounds essentially like bullshit.

Generally, friends, VoIP is fairly low quality simply because it can be. If you want high quality VoIP get a nice headset and download Skype. It’s not like your telephone can reproduce the wonderful glottals of Mariah Carey through a tinny speaker and ’50s-era amplifier.

Lukas Madgi (Who am I?)

Just read your thoughts on HD VoIP, while I am still confused as to what it means, from what I read on a few sites it seems that you need to have two IP phones that use the same codec g722 - not sure why you read this as a scam though - it seems more like a compatibility issue, no?

Also wanted to say that I switched my phone line to Iristel a few years ago and I think you really need to get your facts straight.

The voice quality is indistinguishable from my old Bell line and I save a tonne of money on month calls.

I have learned that their tech support is in Canada but part of their call centre is in Romania, I say this because if you call it you could not tell that it is on the other side of the world.

Sorry to say it but I think you are wrong and tragically misinform your readers on a topic you seem not to know enough about….but I guess that is the purpose of blogs…a place for the ill informed to congregate and talk on topics they are not qualified to professionally write about.

To your readers - the truth lays elsewhere!
