Microsoft Calls iPhone “Irrelevant” For Business Use

iphonewinmo6.jpg

The story goes like this: A Microsoft smartphone strategist said the iPhone will be “irrelevant” to business users because there’s no support for Office and it’s a closed device. Chris Sorenson, who heads Microsoft’s Asia-Pacific smartphone strategy, said business users would be better sticking with Windows Mobile 6-based smartphones because they were developed with business users in mind. OK, that may be true, but does anyone remember Apple claiming that the iPhone would be aimed at business users? Neither do I.

This sure does say something about Microsoft, hating on a product that’s not even out yet. I’m sure they’re not dreading the end of June at all. No sir.

Will be looking forward to how this pushes Microsoft to innovate. Apple’s innovations have really been pushing everyone to innovate.

Not that i give a crap either way, but did the Microsoft strategist ever say that Apple made a claim that the iphone was targeting business users? If not, I don’t see this as “hating” as much as it is trying to point out that they have a different target consumers, and that the iphone will probably not be best for most of the people Microsoft is trying to reach.

On the other hand, I didn’t read anything past this article on CG…so pfft..

Yeah, I mean, Apple fanboys never hate on Microsoft products before they come out, and Apple never hates on Microsoft at all. It’s not like Apple’s main Mac ad campaign is based on Microsoft-hating. No sir.

Microsoft is right when they say that the iphone isn’t for business use. Like said before theres no office support, but a virtual keypad is no substitute for a full qwerty keypad when you’re cranking out more than a hundred messages a day. Also I don’t know whether having push e-mail through yahoo will be compatible with corporate email servers and whatnot.

Where MS is wrong is that most business users use blackberries and not windows smartphones. I’m not allowed to have a cameraphone at my workplace and windows mobile crashes too much for me to rely on it.
