That pic of the Ocean next to a Sidekick just got me one referral credit! My buddy here in the office was gonna get a sidekick 3 this afternoon til I showed him that…. Guess we’re both in line now!

There’s a lot of us Sidekick users who consider the Ocean to be the Sidekick 9. We all know the Ocean feature list mops the floor up with the Sidekick, but we’re very curious about how well the software works. Does it multi-task well? Can you copy and paste text? How responsive is it? How well does the browser work? How easy is it to take a picture and email it?

To add to what Goodman said, can you click on a phone number anywhere and have it sent to the phone app for calling? The current Helio phones don’t do that, and it’s driving me nuts. I got used to clicking phone numbers in google SMS messages on my Sidekick (and my Sony phone before that), and am lost without it.

And are there shortcut keys to switch from one app to another without going through the menu system? (It’s going to be a long wait until the review gets posted, but I think it’s worth it to get it right.)

As for going through the whole process with the email and whatnot, I don’t know about all that, but I’m sure he’s not trying to ’scam’ anyone.. How would he? All he said to do was mention his name to the guy, I don’t see what harm could come from that.

I have one of these promo codes and will be ordering the Ocean as soon as I find something telling me a bit more about the AIM app, because that’s very important to me, as I’m coming from a sidekick.

I just ordered my Ocean and I cannot wait for it to arrive I’m very very happy with Helio service as I switched over from Cingular and let me tell you they LIE and nickel and dime you and they have no customer support so switching to this service was a godsend!

I have a drift , when I got it ,I fell for all the hype . If you’re not a helio user already then don’t bother with this thing . Helio phones pretty much all use the same software and it’s slow AT BEST . Thats assuming it doesn’t just freeze up first . I’m on my third drift now , my friend is on his second and my sister in law is on her 4th . This company still has a lot of growing to do and needs to work out all the bugs . Which wouldn’t be a bad thing except the customer service is one of the first in the industry . Don’t get me wrong they answer fairly quickly but have very little to no knowledge of anything about your account . They almost can never help with billing without transferring you to a “floor supervisor” (many props to Erika the only one that has ever been honest) I have literally called, RECORDED my calls with them paid my bill and had a rep call me within a week to tell me I’m past due !! I would then play the call for the “floor supervisor” only to have them tell me “all prices and terms are subject to change , per your contract” . Quite literally the worst PHONE company I have personally dealt with and am currently speaking with my family lawyer regarding a class action law suit against them . We have more than enough tape for evidence. Anyways Just a little food for thought.

I ordered Helio’s Ocean and have been using it for about 4 days now and I gotta tell you, its a good phone but there are issues. Hopefully they can tweak the software and fine tune the users experience.

The phone has a simple interface UNTILL you use the web browser. It is beyond confusing as to how to get to some of their touted features. The browser needs better forward and back page buttons. It has a back button but needs a forward. The video stream link section forces you to scroll through pages of video clips you are not even interested in just to get to the ones you want. It would be nice if they grouped the videos by show names first and then list each episode. The main web page isn’t customizable so you cant just quick pick the sites you use daily. You are forced to save them through a bookmark listing in a menu. Very annoying considering how much clicking it takes to navigate web pages.

Integration of media The phone has a nice camera and the ability to snatch images off websites. The audio player is surprisingly loud and clear. The problem starts when you want to use this media in say contact cards or use a song as a ring tone. Either the steps needed are just too complex to do, or the software isn’t sufficient in assisting the user in making it happen.

Like I said the phone is good but the software needs work. The phone’s software should make it simple to add an image from the web to a contact card, or wallpaper, or to select a song as a ring tone. They need to make the phone work for the user instead of the user working for the phone.

Hey, the device itself is fantastic, I just worry about the company being a piece of shit with poor reception. I’m coming from a sk3 and I wana switch to this luxurious phone. Damn I freakin want it!

I am a helio customer and their service is outstanding. I wouldnt trade it for the world. I am gonna get me a the new phone because of all of the upgrades they have made.

alright, so ive read review after review…ive gone to the stores and looked at the phone. Ive been through the specs.. (i get mine tomorrow) as far as i can see just like any other phone or computer its only as good as the user. The phone is sweet but what is bugging the crap out of me is look at the specs on the drift and then look at the specs on the ocean. In actuality it the drift with a keyboard and a better browser. Yeah there are some features that are alot better but when u get down to basics the drift in fact is a pretty powerful phone. From what ive seen so far alot of you people dont know how to google anything. The phone does support pop mail u just have to play with it a bit. For my businessman and woman except karen up there shes a slut. There will be an update for use with activesync. Yes aim is awesome but you cant shut off alerts which can get annoying after a while from what ive been told but if u google theres a solution around it. Yes u can take images directly off the website and set them as a wallpaper.. Yes u can make ur own ringtones using a program called smaf from yamaha… GOOGLE it… The version on java is a korean variant so at the moment no u cant load your own apps. THE BROWSER is state of the are and u idiots that bitch about it just cant figure it out.. I love when people buy devices because they want to talk shit but have no idea how to use it. The browser could use a little tweaking but it also has a special scrolling that lets u see the entire page. And only a couple of other phones i think made by nokia can do it. If u know what ur doing the phone is excellent.. It has it bugs but thats what RMA service for… (google it) Customer service is awesome ive talked to many different people.. If they cant answer my question they get someone who can.. Lose the attitude and theyre very nice.. Ocean is a very good phone given to the right users.

It’s been almost four weeks and they still haven’t ported my cell number from my previous carrier. Sometimes customer support says I never gave them the account number. How stupid is that? I get blamed every time, even threatened once. If I terminate within the 30 days, my existing cell number (that they can’t seem to port) may not work any more. I’ve been through two tiers of support, called many many times, been on hold for a total of at least two hours. They even told me I gave them the wrong address. The bill, however, had no problem finding me. I was charged the activation fee they said they would waive for my troubles and I was billed for a plan that includes minutes I can’t use (while the port is ongoing I can’t make/receive calls). And what really pisses me off is the whole time they have this oh-so-hip, we’re-so-cool-we-don’t-give-a-shit attitude. “Don’t call us a phone company” they say. No shit, buckweat! A phone company lets you make phone calls!

You guys talk a lot of crap with little or no knowledge of what u say!
the phone is new and and its software will be improved with automated updates, just give a little time and stop crapping on everything. helio is a innovative company and they have a bright future ahead of them.

On the personal note
Nothing compares to this phone combined with price tag plus super fast cheap service and amount of features it has. will not find anything close to this period.
This is the closest thing to a “pocket friend” u can get.

I can’t say enough about Helio. I love my Ocean. It’s the best phone I’ve ever had. I called several dealers and got pretty good prices, Then I got a price from AuthorizedMerchants.com they gave me a special code and had me call the same dealer I had already spoke to.
