Besides the iPhone, What Else Happened on June 29?

We now know the iPhone will be released on June 29. For better or worse, June 29 will from then on be one of those dates that you just know, like July 4, December 7 and any Friday the 13th.

So, what else happened on June 29, you know, before the iPhone’s launch?

Keeping in mind this list is based on Wikipedia…

• 1613 - The Globe Theater burned to the ground. If they had iPhones they could have called for help.

• 1888 - Handel made the first classical music recording on wax cylinder. Song sold on iTunes Plus some time later.

• 1995 - The space shuttle Atlantis docked with Mir for the first time. Apple makes “docking” hip and groovy with its iPod years later.

• 1956 - The U.S. Interstate Highway System is created so that we can drive to our nearest Apple Store as quickly as possible.

It seems to me that the iPhone’s launch will overshadow all of those events. Congrats, Apple, you now own your very own day of the year!

Lol, nice spin! Nevertheless, I’ve been noticing that even people who went schizo over iPhone at first are starting to lose interest a bit due to the price, the carrier, the contract, or the possible lack of third-party apps. It seems the iPhone may not make as big of a splash in the market as we imagined.
