Next iPod or iPhone May Have Dynamic Lyrics Display

A recently published patent filed by Apple shows that the next iPod or iPhone may have a new way of displaying song lyrics. The patents shows that text displayed would be highlighted in some way, whether it be color, an underline, or box around the text. This could be used for karaoke or following along with an audiobook. So far it sounds like a smart idea for the Cupertino-based company.
One question still remains however. Why would you want to perform karaoke with an iPod or iPhone? Both devices have small screens and viewing lyrics would be hard enough, god forbid you have to do it one handed ’cause you’re rocking the mic in the other. Maybe Apple has something up its sleeve for the future of the iPod and iTunes.

The flip side of reading words on your iPod is wanting to listen to them–with audiobooks. Until yesterday, I never had a choice of narrators on a book before. It was strange to be able to compare before purchasing an intense over-actor to a rather lightweight, whiny but straight-forward reading. It made me wonder about who was going to talk to me for 20+ hours. If you’re interested, more on the experience I just went through at Doxspot (http://doxspot.blogspot.com).

It appears that the lyrics function is not available on the iPhone! I was really disappointed to discover this. So not only are dynamic lyrics not availble, the old-style regular lyrics don’t appear to be either. :(
