More Fat Nano™ Rumors: It’s Getting Interesting

We know this is a fake Photoshop image. We made it because we couldn’t show the real one anymore. We’re OK with that.So today we’re hearing more rumors swirling around the Interwebs about the forthcoming Fat iPod Nano™, and this thing’s shaping up to be interesting. We already know it exists, as both Gizmodo and CrunchGear have received Cease & Desist orders from Apple’s legal team for showing leaked photos. Thanks for the heads-up, Apple! We also have heard rumors that give a few of the details away, namely that it’ll come in 8GB and 16GB NAND-based configurations. We also heard it won’t be called the Nano, but something else. But now we’re hearing a little more about launch plans, the interface, and another iPod.
First up is chatter that Apple will throw a party/event/press conference/mass sometime next month to introduce the new iPod, and possibly iPods. That’s the next rumor: that there have been sightings in factories in Asia of full-screen touch iPods, the iPhone without the “phone” part. So we could be seeing a whole overhaul of the iPod brand, and it’s about time.
What’s really interesting is that the overhaul isn’t just in the hardware, but that the interface is getting a major update. Gone are the familiar nested menus as we have now, as it’s to be replaced by Coverflow. While we like Coverflow in theory, it’s still to hard to fill in missing stuff, and some songs don’t have covers at all. We’re hoping Apple comes up with a clever way to address this.
Coverflow is cool, but the current iPod OS can’t handle it. But OS X can, and rumors are saying that, like the iPhone, the new iPods will run the sturdy Apple OS. We’ve seen how amazing it runs and looks on devices like the iPhone and Apple TV, so it’s really a no-brainer that Apple would go in this direction. It also unifies their hardware into an all-OS X column, which makes sense from a developer’s standpoint.
In all, this holiday shopping season could be a great one for Cupertino. Stay tuned for more.

ars technica are claiming that this event will be hold on the 5th september.
I think thats pretty tough, since back-to-school promotion will be still running when this new products would come up.
Hopefully this won’t be all for the month, since there is still some new stuff to come. Leopard release-date … MacBook-update … but iPods are a good start. :-)

That thing is ugly, I just cannot believe that Apple would produce it. I say fake, and I don’t care what anybody else says.

Dear Crunch Gear,
Even though we have built an empire on hype and pre-release rumors, we are going to confirm these rumors by sending Cease & Desist orders.
Please stop promoting our products or we will be forced to send you more emails and use other tactics. Amongst our weaponry are such diverse elements as: fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, and an army of Fanboys with an almost fanatical devotion to
the PopeSteve Jobs.Sincerely, Apple or Mac or Whatever

Guys, thats not “the” leaked picture. It’s only a [lame and selfmade] remake from our CG-guys so no shame on that.
… just to set you straight.

I also heard it comes with an inflatable lifewest in case you go down in your plane while listening to it. And if you put it in the washer with your clothes, they will come out extra clean! I even read that putting it under your pillow makes your penis grow over night. Not so nano anymore indeed, har har.

I say that’s a pretty bad photoshop job of a 5th gen 30 giger…
You can even see the mismatched lineups on the photo where they didn’t photoshop it so great… and… why would apple release a smaller version of something they already have that’s arleady outdated?! If they’re going to release a new ipod line it’ll be something more along the lines of their touchscreen iphone and their new colors are black and brushed metal… not the clear sleek case like the 5 gen.
this is defenately a photoshop. and a bad one at that.

Ive been in the market for a new macbook and have noticed that they are giving away a free ipod w/ any laptop purchase. The expiration date on this offer is September 16th. IMO the new ones wont be for sale before that. Maybe an announcement but not for sale.
@Adam from Ohio .. gotta agree with ya!

Well I can’t wait to get my hands on this new one. It may be fat, but I guess it will still fit neatly into a shirt pocket.

I gotta tell you that IF I was an intelligent company (like say Apple), I would send Cease & Desist Orders on all credible rumours.
That way sites like this one won’t be able to tell the difference between fact and fiction.
So Apple sending court orders to sites that post credible rumours does not make them more credible.

“We already know it exists, as both Gizmodo and CrunchGear have received Cease & Desist orders from Apple’s legal team for showing leaked photos.”
No you don’t. You can send out c-and-d letters all day long, but unless someone challenges the letter, it doesn’t mean that you have a legal right to the images or to demand others take them down.
Is it me or are the gadget blogs getting more and more credulous with each round of rumored products that come around?

Congrats to whoever decided to chop their iPod Video on photoshop and open a can of shitty lookalike on it. I do believe they’re doing the fat nano, but I don’t think -This is the one-

why do you guys dislike this design so? there’s wasted space below the clickwheel and beneath the screen on the current version…this seems the most logical next step, if one were to make the nano smaller.

@ Everyone: Ok, listen, the photo is a fake. How do I know? Cuz I made it. If you scroll up and read the other comments, you’ll see that we’re very open about the fact that it’s a hastily mocked-up photoshop job. We needed some graphic for the story to illustrate the look of the new Fat Nano™, so I put this image together in about 5 minutes.
So, yes, it’s fake, in that it’s made up, but we never claimed it wasn’t. Not sure who did.

Hey Matt (as in Matt Hickey)!!!
That picture is a fake! It’s got all sorts of p-shop issues.
Fake! Fake! Fake! Fake!
Come on, man! Swipe a real photo or you’ll have people going off about photoshops all day long without ever reading the comments!
Oh..
It’s a fake!!

To add to the timing rumours. Here in Sydney Australia, it’s almost impossible to buy and ipod at the moment. Particularly the 30gb model. There was a price reduction about six weeks ago and stocks have run down to none in almost all stores across the city. It has been noted many times that Apple never reduce their prices…except when a model change is close. Here in Sydney, it’s looking really close…
