Apple Fairy: high-def AppleTV content coming soon

appletv

According to the Apple Fairy, close relative of the Fat Nano Fairy, there’s gonna be a pretty substantial update to iTunes sometime this month that’ll help to bring AppleTV back from the teetering edge of extinction. Apple has apparently placed a gargantuan order for more AppleTV units in anticipation for the upcoming “iTunes HD” or whatever it’ll be called.

The name aside, you’ll soon be able to purchase a selection of high-definition movies and television shows that’ll work on AppleTV. Finally.

[Update, by Matt]: According to MacOS Rumors, they know something about Apple TV that they’re not saying yet, as they’re under embargo. We’re guessing it’s in line with what we’ve got here. Also, they’ve got word of the end of the Mac Mini, in favor of a “Mac Nano”-type computer for as little as $249. That, friends, is aggressive.

Let’s hope there’s some truth to this. Without the HD content, my AppleTV for the most part just collects dust. This is something that is desperately needed to make this device worth the money.

The AppleTV already plays 720p and the iTunes store already has HD video podcast. So I can’t see what needs to be changed in the actual box itself hardware-wise.

I am waiting for AppleTV 2.0, HD movie rental, and HD TV subscription before I buy. Hopefully my expectations are not too high.

I am hoping for the ability to actually purchase things through the AppleTV — like they did with the iPhone and iPod Touch.

A Mac Nano sounds suspicious since Apple has repeatedly maintained that their business model does not include budget computers.

Come on people, everyone knows Mac OS Rumors is a laughingstock. While Apple is *surely* working on HD content, and the Mac Mini will *likely* one day be redesigned and possibly thinner, Mac OS Rumors certainly doesn’t have any insider info.

This is the site that promised the iMac Extreme Gaming Edition due summer ‘06. Yeah, how did that one pan out?

About time, though this will probably be for US customers only. Here in Australia the AppleTV - unless hacked - is pretty useless. One thing that really bothers me, they should release the movie trailers at the same time as they do on the website ( via rss ) and deliver them in 720p no less.

It seems that the whole Apple / iTunes, movies and tv show thing hasn’t really taken off here… damn I just need a US credit card or a US iTunes gift certificate… why oh why..

Um… mac os rumors is basically an ad scheme at this point. they haven’t been accurate in 7ish years.

It is great to hear about Apple TV that it is coming up with selections of high-definition movies and television shows that’ll work on it. Recently, i visited a site, stating that it provides an instant good quality, pictures in a camera phone with the help of the built-in TV out port. Is this related to that ?

The info about the agressive pricing is a misread of the Mac OS Rumor article. It is the new entry level price point for the Apple TV which is to come with a 60GB or perhaps an 80GB hard disc.

I tend to think that the AppleTV will be RENAMED to be Mac NANO. think about it, it IS a OSX system, they just need to open it up a little more. I mean, it is running OSX, it has a HDD, it does everything, except allow keyboard/mouse and access to the nice OSX GUI. And the price is in the right range.

So upgrade to AppleTV to make them full systems, and rebranding. Voila, sub $300 computer that does everything
