“Video games today are a race to the bottom. They are pure, unadulterated trash and I’m sad for that.”

Thank you, Nolan Bushnell, founder of Atari, for saying what many of us were thinking.

In an interview, Bushnell went on and on about many things, including his take on the current video game industry, and it’s a very Nintendo-like view. He’s tired of derivative shooters (really, how many times can we replay Doom and still call it fun?) and their ilk and wishes games meant something. He sees Breakout, for example, as a metaphor for improving society. You know, breaking down walls between cultures and societies.

An okay interview, I guess. I mainly liked it because he hated on FPSes. We need more games like Portal, which, if you haven’t played it, you’re totally missing out. Most fun I’ve had in ages playing a game. (WOW is like a job at this point.)
